Sustainability-focused department store, Know the Origin, has opened its a pop-up and first zero-waste store at community-led retail and leisure destination Angel Central.

Know the Origin has opened its 2,831 sq ft pop-up store at 11 Parkfield Street, showcasing over 200 ethical and sustainable brands including Girlfriend Collective, Thinking Mu, and Hara The Label.

The brand has experience running eight pop-ups across Brighton, London and Manchester, spreading its vision to make "knowing the origin" of products the industry standard.

Charlotte Instone, Founder of Know the Origin, commented: “I set up Know the Origin to create a platform for those amazing brands that champion the full product journey, so customers can connect with where each product has come from. We have been able to educate the public and spread our vision across the UK through our series of pop-up stores, and Angel Central’s prominent location and high levels of footfall is the perfect space to continue our mission.”

Commenting on the opening, Ciara Daffy, Asset Manager at CBRE Global Investors, said: “Enhancing sustainability in retail is now one of the most talked about objectives in the industry, and Know the Origin is one of those retailers at the forefront when it comes to changing the way we consume our goods. Know the Origin is a thought-provoking concept, which makes sustainable retail highly accessible to the public, and its educational and collaborative approach makes for a great addition to Angel Central.”

The opening follows the recent completion of Angel Central’s £16 million shopping centre refurbishment.

The redevelopment has seen the creation of a pedestrian link bridge and balcony extensions on the first floor, above a fully glazed kiosk within the central plaza, with the iconic "Angel Wings" still central to the scheme.

With an emphasis on sustainability, Angel Central has recently become one of only three shopping centres in the world, and the second UK asset, to achieve a 2-star rating in the latest Fitwel framework, the world’s leading certification system for optimising building design and operations, to support human health and well-being.
