The Perfume Shop has recorded a 29% sales increase in the pre-Christmas period (October to December 2021), compared to the same period in 2019.

The fragrance destination reported that the increase in sales could be attributed to consumers starting their Christmas shopping earlier than usual over fears of increased restrictions and shortages.

The Perfume Shop recorded particularly strong sales in the week before Christmas, which generated 27% of pre-Christmas sales.

The retailer said it sold 1.9 million bottles of scent in the month leading up to Christmas, while Christmas gift sets also enjoyed an increase of 7% compared to 2020.

The retailer's bestselling scents of 2021 included Dior Sauvage, Chanel Coco Modmoiselle and Paco Rabanne 1 Million.

Andrea Rickard, The Perfume Shop’s trading director, said: “Customers have had another tumultuous year, but the gift of perfume is proving to hit the right note for friends and loved ones to share the love this Christmas.

"The personal memories evoked from a perfume and the feel-good spritz of a scent continue to make it a popular choice. We’d like to thank all our customers for their support and we’re looking forward to celebrating our 30th birthday with them next year.”
