This Works advances functional fragrance with neuroscent innovation
This Works, recognised for its functional fragrances and sleep-support expertise, has launched a new Eau de Parfum that blends neuroscience with luxury perfumery to support the body’s natural transition into evening rest.
Own Time is positioned as the first luxury neuroscent designed to activate the parasympathetic nervous system - the body’s "rest and digest" mode - through a blend of behaviour-altering terpenes.
According to the brand, the fragrance is backed by seven years of neuroscientific research and has been shown to help calm the senses, reduce stress, and support deeper, more restorative sleep.
Its scent profile is described as woody, ambery, and aromatic, created to linger into the night.
The launch builds on the company’s earlier functional fragrance products, including its Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, which the brand cites as scientifically proven to reduce sleep anxiety and improve sleep quality.
Own Time is presented as the next step in this category, expanding the role of scent in supporting evening wellbeing.
Developed by Dr Anna Persaud, CEO of This Works and a biochemist specialising in sleep and circadian health, together with neuroscientist Professor Gaby Badre, the scent is described as guiding the wearer through a “neuro-journey” from tension to calm and from daytime alertness toward readiness for sleep.
Dr Persaud notes that the fragrance is informed by her work in neuroscience and her personal experience with a dysregulated nervous system.
"My work in neuroscience - and my own lived experience of navigating a dysregulated nervous system - is what led to the creation of the This Works Neuro Platform: our science-led framework that uses fragrance, touch, and mindful application to help guide the body from stress into regulation," she said.
"Learning how to regulate my own system reshaped how I think about wellbeing, and about the transition we all need at the end of the day. This fragrance is born from that understanding: a science-backed way to help people shift out of survival mode and into calm, connection, and rest."
The fragrance opens with notes of pink peppercorn and lemon myrtle, followed by cardamom and olibanum at the heart. The dry down blends sandalwood, amber, musk and clove for an intimate finish.
It also includes an odourless molecule that activates in daylight, releasing coumarin, which adds a powdery rose note intended to evoke calm and comfort.
