Timothée Chalamet's latest starring role is in Chanel's short film
Bleu de Chanel’s campaign has had a makeover courtesy of Timothée Chalamet. The actor ushers in a new era for the iconic fragrance in a campaign film directed by cinema legend Martin Scorsese.
Last May, the luxury house of Chanel announced that Hollywood star Timothée Chalamet was set to become the new face of its best-selling fragrance Bleu de Chanel, marking his first beauty ambassadorship.
Chanel has now released the actor's campaign film debut. Inspired by the magnetic pull and timeless spirit of the fresh scent, Scorsese and Chalamet worked together for the first time to create a contemporary picture of "free, daring, and determined self-discovery".
After directing the first Bleu de Chanel campaign in 2010, Martin Scorsese is once again using his creative genius to portray the many facets of a man who is forging his own path. In a world where the bright lights of fame tend to blind us to reality, Timothée Chalamet portrays someone who sets off on a quest to find himself, following only his instincts in a candid role.
The American director’s film explores the delicate ambivalence between the overexposure that comes with fame and his profound desire to seek authenticity in his craft.
"The world has changed. There’s another aspect to celebrity in a way, which is even more extreme than 10 or 15 years ago", said Martin Scorsese.
Contrast-filled scenes shot in black and white depict the duality between the character’s celebrity persona and his dark side. Meanwhile, flashes of blue, which symbolise hope, provide the watcher with glimmers of optimism. This playful use of colour culminates in the final scene, in which Chalamet’s character, plunged into a charismatic blue, comes face-to-face with his inner truth. Here, the campaign's message is loud and clear: "Find your blue, find yourself".

Created by perfumer Jacques Polge and launched in 2010, Bleu de Chanel is a woody fragrance with notes of grapefruit, lemon, pink pepper, ginger, vetiver and incense.
With this campaign, Chalamet continues the tradition that began with Gaspard Ulliel's appointment as the face of Bleu de Chanel in 2010. The actor was the first male Chanel ambassador and held this position for 12 years until his death in 2022.
