Tropic Skincare has partnered with national skin cancer charity Skcin to raise awareness about sun safety and the early detection of skin cancer.

Through this new collaboration, the brand is supporting its 20,000+ ambassadors to gain accredited training to empower them to recognise the early signs of skin cancer within their communities.

As part of this, Tropic will offer its ambassadors discounted access to Skcin’s MASCED programme - the UK’s first online melanoma and skin cancer education initiative designed specifically for professionals in the beauty and health industry.

Its ambassadors - many of whom work in close contact professions like hairdressing, massage therapy and reflexology - will learn how to identify suspicious skin lesions on their customers, particularly in areas not typically checked by the individual, like scalps and backs.

Emily Mitchell, Marketing Director at Tropic Skincare, said: "We are so excited to offer this opportunity to our ambassadors, many of whom work in the beauty and health industry and regularly get up-close with their customers’ skin.

"Our goal is to educate and empower them to recognise the signs and symptoms of skin cancer. With over 20,000 Tropic Ambassadors around the UK, we want to train as many eyes as possible, in the hope we can help save lives."

In addition, Tropic will educate its community through a series of social media posts and other marketing channels, encouraging everyone to enjoy the sun safely this summer and beyond. This will include promoting Skcin’s ‘Protect and Check’ initiative and inspiring its followers to adopt the 5-star approach to sun protection:

  • Slide on protective clothing.
  • Slop on SPF 30+ sun protection.
  • Slap on a hat.
  • Slide on UV-blocking sunglasses.
  • Seek shade (especially between 11am-3pm).

As skin cancer rates continue to rise across all age groups, with melanoma now one of the leading cancer killers among 15-34-year-olds, Tropic and Skcin hope this partnership will offer a "vital first line of defence against this deadly disease."

Marie Tudor, CEO at Skcin, said: "Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in both the UK and worldwide. However, with greater awareness of the dangers of UV overexposure, 90% of cases could be prevented.

"That's why we're thrilled to be supporting Tropic's drive to educate its community on simple sun safety protocols that have the potential to save lives. Together we can be powerful force in combating skin cancer and promoting sun safety and early detection."

Founded by Susie Ma, Tropic Skincare blends tropical botanicals with cutting-edge science to create a range of vegan beauty products.

Inspired by her Grandma's homemade body scrub recipe, Ma started out selling at Greenwich market. Today, the brand stocks a variety of products across skincare, bodycare, makeup and haircare.
