'UK’s first fully flushable period pad' lands at Tesco, expanding access to sustainable femcare
FLUUS, a brand known for its fully flushable and 100% biodegradable period pads, has launched in 249 Tesco stores across the UK.
The move marks the British brand's first major partnership with a supermarket chain, supporting its mission to make sustainable feminine hygiene products "more accessible to millions of shoppers".
FLUUS pads use patented Flushtec technology, allowing users to flush the pad and its wrapper down the toilet. According to the brand, the products break down completely in water, eliminating landfill waste and microplastic pollution.
Developed by Dr. Olivia Ahn, an NHS doctor turned entrepreneur, FLUUS seeks to offer an alternative to traditional period products, which can contain up to 90% plastic and take centuries to decompose.
Until now, Dr. Ahn notes that flushable and biodegradable period pads were primarily available through specialist retailers or online, limiting consumer access.
The Tesco partnership is designed to leverage habitual shopping patterns, positioning sustainable pads alongside mainstream brands to encourage more environmentally conscious purchasing decisions.
The launch comes after FLUUS secured £515,000 in a pre-seed funding round led by Ada Ventures.
Beyond period care, the brand is also exploring applications for its flushable technology in other hygiene categories, including incontinence care, baby products, and household items, aiming to challenge existing disposable product norms.
Dr. Ahn states that the company’s broader goal is to rethink disposable hygiene products to create sustainable alternatives that minimise environmental impact.
