Biotech haircare company Virtue Labs has been named on Fast Company’s list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2022. It was also named the third most innovative company in the beauty sector worldwide.

Fast Company publishes its list of the World's Most Innovative Companies annually, and in 2022 Virtue Labs takes its place next to the likes of Microsoft and SpaceX.

Virtue Labs created and launched Virtue Flourish, a treatment for female hair loss that has been clinically proven as safe and effective, in 2021. The treatment is powered by the company's Alpha Keratin 60ku CLINICAL technology. A one-month supply of the product range, which includes shampoo, conditioner and a serum, retails for £55.

Virtue tested the Flourish products in an independent lab test with participating women using the products for six months. It found that 97% of participants their scalp was healthier, while 90% saw more hair growth and volume.

Founder and CEO of Virtue Labs, Melisse Shaban, spoke about the launch of the Flourish range in an interview with TheIndustry.fashion in October 2021. She also looked back at how the brand's ground-breaking patented keratin protein technology was born out of research seeking to repair catastrophic battlefield wounds, and how she used her life-long experience in the haircare industry to launch the company.

On being part of Fast Company's list Shaban said: “We’re deeply honoured to be recognised by Fast Company as one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. Forty percent of women will experience hair loss by the time they’re 40, and that number only increases with age.

“After rigorous, third-party clinical testing of our Flourish products, we knew that they would be a real breakthrough in the category, but what we didn’t know was how phenomenal the response would be.

“Since Flourish launched we have been overwhelmed with rave reviews of hair that’s thicker, lusher, and healthier looking than ever before. We’re extremely gratified to be able to offer a real, technology-based solution to the almost epidemic problem of female hair loss.”

Fast Company Deputy Editor David Lidsky added: “The world’s most innovative companies play an essential role in addressing the most pressing issues facing society, whether they’re fighting climate change by spurring decarbonisation efforts, ameliorating the strain on supply chains, or helping us reconnect with one another over shared passions.”
