Wella Company has appointed Calvin McDonald as Chief Executive Officer, effective 2 April, as it enters its next phase of growth.

McDonald brings experience across the consumer sector. He has served as CEO of Canadian athleisure brand Lululemon since August 2018.

Prior to this, he was CEO of Sephora Americas, overseeing five consecutive years of double-digit growth. He also previously served as President and CEO of department store Sears for over two years.

Commenting on the appointment, Executive Chair Glenn Murphy, said: "We are delighted to welcome Calvin to Wella Company. As a three-time CEO, he brings decades of experience at industry-leading global consumer brands and retail businesses."

The appointment follows Coty’s sale of its remaining 25.8% stake in Wella to global investment firm KKR at the end of last year.

Under KKR’s ownership, Wella Company has expanded its portfolio of brands serving both professional and consumer markets. The group employs more than 6,000 people globally.

"Wella Company is a global powerhouse of iconic brands, including Wella Professionals, OPI, and Ghd. As a growth-oriented leader, I am energised to help elevate these brands, partner with the pros who bring them to life, and unlock new ways to connect with consumers," said McDonald.

"It’s also great to be returning to beauty - an innovative, fast-evolving industry powered by consumers who are genuinely passionate about the products they love. I’m excited to join the talented team at Wella Company and grateful for the trust placed in me."
