Wonderskin, best known for its innovative blue Lip Stain Masque, has secured $50m in a Series A funding round and plans to accelerate its retail expansion and product development.

The funding round was led by top-tier private equity house Insight Partners and comes as the brand reveals it has signed a retail deal with Boots in the UK.

It has been described as a "pivotal moment" in the journey of the brand, which has notched up more than one billion views of its Wonder Blading Lip Stain Masque, which goes on blue and infuses a layer of pigment onto the lips. The blue layer is wiped off after 60 minutes to reveal a long-lasting stain.

However, Wonderskin's product portfolio has expanded beyond the viral hit masque and includes 360 Lip Liners, Lip Rehab Serum Oil, Top Glosses and more. Following the investment, more innovative products are expected.

"Welcoming one of the most iconic firms in growth equity to join us on this journey speaks to the strength of our innovation, our team, and our vision," said Michael Malinsky, Co-Founder & CEO of Wonderskin. "The resources, expertise, and strategic guidance Insight brings will help us forge the next-generation beauty company."

Insight Partners is known for its investments in fast growing brands such as fashion label Quince in the US and e-commerce platform Shopify, to name just two. It was attracted to invest in Wonderskin due to its ability to blend science with results to create new, category-defining products.

"We believe Wonderskin is reshaping the beauty landscape with patented innovation, bold product design, and a deep connection to today's consumer," said Rebecca Liu-Doyle, Managing Director at Insight Partners. "Their ability to fuse science, creativity, and cultural relevance is rare—and we're excited to support them as they build the next iconic beauty brand."

Wonderskin was founded by entrepreneurs Michael Malinsky and Marina Kalenchyts in 2020. It rose to prominence during the pandemic and has gone on to build a large community of fans, drawn to its innovative, multi-use and long-lasting cosmetics. Its headquarters are in London, while it also has an in-house lab, with the majority of manufacturing based in the US.

The brand will be staging a pop-up at the Battersea Power Station branch of Boots from 15th - 18th May, to mark its exclusive retail partnership, which sees it rolled out to Boots stores nationwide and on Boots.com.
