WUKA scales Tesco partnership to boost accessibility of reusable period products

WUKA, a UK-based sustainable period care brand, has significantly expanded its retail partnership with Tesco, increasing its in-store presence from fewer than 300 locations to more than 1,800 nationwide.

As part of the rollout, WUKA products are now available in over 1,300 Tesco Express stores. This marks the first time reusable period pants have been introduced at scale within a convenience retail format in the UK, extending their availability beyond larger supermarkets into neighbourhood stores.

To support the launch, WUKA has introduced an exclusive product for Tesco Express: the WUKA Stretch Express Fit period pants, priced at £9.95. The lower price point aims to make reusable period care more accessible to a broader range of consumers, particularly those looking to transition away from disposable products.

According to WUKA founder and CEO Ruby Raut, the expansion reflects a shift in how period care is accessed. She notes that making reusable options available in local convenience stores addresses the need for quick and nearby access to period products, while also helping to normalise periods by placing these items alongside everyday essentials.

The partnership indicates a broader change in the retail landscape, with sustainable period care becoming more integrated into routine shopping environments. By extending into convenience stores, reusable products are positioned as a practical option for everyday use rather than a niche or specialty purchase.

Environmental impact also remains a key consideration. Disposable pads and tampons contribute significantly to annual waste, with billions discarded each year. In contrast, a single pair of reusable period pants can last up to two years and replace more than 200 disposable products, offering a longer-term alternative with reduced environmental impact.

Overall, the expanded availability of reusable period pants through Tesco Express stores represents a notable development in both accessibility and sustainability within the UK period care market.
