WUKA, a UK-based sustainable period care brand, has launched what it describes as the UK’s first heavy-flow period-proof swimwear collection for competitive swimmers, club athletes and those undertaking intensive training.

Developed in collaboration with three-time Olympian Hannah Miley MBE, the Competition Swim Range includes a Competition Legsuit, Racerback Swimsuit, Tie Back Swimsuit and Bikini Set.

The collection features integrated absorbent technology intended to provide leak protection in and out of the water, alongside performance-led features such as compression fits, hydrodynamic construction and chlorine-resistant fabrics.

According to the brand, the heavy-flow gusset can hold up to 20ml of menstrual flow, equivalent to around three pads or four tampons, for up to four hours of continuous use. The range is made using recycled materials and quick-dry absorbent layers and is positioned as a reusable alternative to disposable period products used in sport.

Ruby Raut, WUKA founder and CEO, said: “Young swimmers told us they wanted swimwear that looked and performed like serious training kit while giving them confidence during their period.”

She added that the collection was developed in response to female athletes’ need for reassurance during training and competition.

Miley said that period-proof swimwear could help remove a key barrier for menstruating athletes.

“No athlete should feel their period is a reason to miss a session or step away from the sport they love,” she said.

Research commissioned by WUKA among 206 girls and parents in the UK in February 2025 found that more than 46% of girls say menstruation impacts their participation in sports or swimming, while 69% avoid swimming during their periods due to a lack of confidence and cultural stigma.

The launch follows the brand’s wider expansion into sports-focused products, including the period-proof tennis skort launched in July 2025.

It also comes as WUKA continues to grow its retail presence, with products now available in more than 1,800 Tesco stores nationwide.

Available in sizes XXS-L, the WUKA Competition Swim Range is available online from £70.
