Clinique will become the first of Estée Lauder Companies’ (ELC) prestige beauty brands to use a new more sustainable form of luxury packaging - ahead of a wider push to advance high-end sustainable solutions.

The development, which will begin with bottles of Clinique’s 200ml Clarifying Lotion, follows a new partnership with heat and cool surface technology provider Roctool.

The partnership would lead to ELC implementing “cutting-edge practices across its brand portfolio” as part of its ongoing efforts “to advance luxury, sustainable packaging,” ELC said.

Roctool’s unique molding technology provides “significantly enhanced” surface finishes which eliminates the need for additional decorative steps.

Aimed at all make-up, skincare and perfume applications, the innovation is suitable for standard, recycled and bio-based resins, including some of the most innovative.

The process delivered “a more responsible and simplified packaging approach” including waste reduction of up to 15% in the production process, while maintaining high quality, ELC said.

ELC Senior Vice President of Global Packaging Daniel Ramos said: “At The Estée Lauder Companies, we’re continually investing and innovating at every step of our packaging process to help drive more responsible packaging solutions that enable our brands to deliver high-quality, luxury experiences to our consumers.

“We’re working with industry partners like Roctool to help to improve our packaging design. From there, we’re leveraging our portfolio of brands to implement these best-in-class practices at scale to be part of the solution and deliver packaging innovations that are better for both our consumers and the planet."

ELC worked with beauty packaging manufacturer Pinard Beauty Pack on its first commercialisation of the Roctool technology in Europe.

The new bottle will initially be rolled out across European markets while ELC plans to scale the technology globally across its brand portfolio, enabling the company to continue driving innovative packaging solutions.
