L'Oréal to end commercialisation of Decléor

L'Oréal has stopped the commercialisation of aromatherapy skincare brand Decléor, which operates though its Dermatological Beauty division.

Founded in 1974 by Solange Dessimoulie, Decléor is known for blending premium essential oils to provide proven skincare solutions.

The brand was acquired by L’Oréal from Shiseido in 2014 as part of a deal which also included the acquisition of French beauty brand Carita.

However, after almost 10 years, L’Oréal has decided to end the commercialisation of the business following the re-launch of its Dermatological Beauty division earlier this year.

In a statement, the group said: "L’Oréal has a portfolio of complementary brands. The group’s strategy is to acquire and, sometimes, exit brands, to keep a very strong portfolio and the complementarity it needs to thrive over the long-term.

"The success of L'Oréal Dermatological Beauty is based on a strategy and a business model focused on brands prescribed by healthcare professionals. Under these conditions, the division has decided to stop the commercialisation of Decléor."

L’Oréal re-branded its Active Cosmetics division as Dermatological Beauty in February 2023 to help champion the health and beauty of skin.

At the time, Worldwide President of L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty, Myriam Cohen-Welgryn, said: "The new identity is not just a new name. It helps us stand more clearly for who we are: brands that accompany dermatologists, paediatricians, pharmacists in the daily support to their patients.

The news comes after L'Oréal recently reported a 4.5% increase in sales to €10 billion for the third quarter, with a "very strong performance" from its Dermatological Beauty and Consumer Products divisions.

The Dermatological Beauty division recorded "outstanding growth" of 27.3% to €4.9 billion for the nine months ending 30 September 2023, driven by a portfolio of highly complementary brands and longstanding medical prescription leadership.
