Nivea has named pro-surfer Lucy Campbell as its new sustainability ambassador for the UK.

In her new role, Campbell will head the brand's new #CutbackOnPlasticPollution campaign to raise awareness for the damage plastic is having on our ocean.

Every year, between nine and 14 million tonnes of plastic enters our ocean. This pollution reduces the ocean's ability to fight the climate crisis and threatens 40% of marine mammals with extinction.

Research by Nivea found that nearly nine in 10 UK households say that they regularly recycle, but only 49% of UK adults and 29% of young adults always recycle bathroom products. 36% say they're not knowledgeable about how to recycle their bathroom products.

To address this issue, Nivea is providing simple and low-cost tips to promote more sustainable habits such as recycling bottles, switching to plastic-free products and using refillable containers. Nivea is also partnering with the Marine Conservation Society, which works towards a cleaner, better protected and healthier ocean across the UK and will be supporting Nivea's commitments to reduce its plastic footprint.

Lucy Campbell, Nivea UK's new sustainability ambassador, said: "I'm determined to change things, and I'm proud to be part of Nivea's campaign. Whether the changes made are big or small, I know we can all improve when it comes to cutting back on plastic pollution. If everyone takes a little step, we're one step closer to saving our seas."

Alison Sammons, Brand Communications Manager at Nivea, said: "Nivea recognises it has a big responsibility to minimise its environmental impact. Although everyone has their part to play in protecting our ocean and the planet as a whole. Brands and businesses need to take the lead in driving change. That is why we're launching our campaign to #CutBackOnPlasticPollution and take action to reduce our own plastic footprint."
