Ariana Grande's r.e.m. beauty has appointed Michelle Shigemasa as CEO, bringing over 20 years beauty experience to the role.

Shigemasa previously served as CEO of Murad until 2021 and Shani Darden Skin Care until 2022. Prior to this, Shigemasa spent over 13 years at Estée Lauder Companies-owned Smashbox Cosmetics. She joined the company as Director of Sales, working her way up to Senior Vice President and General Manager of North America.

The news coincides with the appointment of Sarah Schwartz, who has been appointed Creative Director of r.e.m. beauty. Schwartz joins the company from Forma Brands, the previous owners of r.e.m. beauty, where she served as Senior Art Director.

Earlier this month, Ariana Grande reached a deal to buy assets tied to her r.e.m. beauty brand from Forma Brands, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month. The agreement to purchase r.e.m. beauty's physical assets from Forma Brands, which includes all existing inventory, was estimated at $15 million.

Founded in 2021, r.e.m beauty is inspired by Grande's signature looks and makeup routine. Since its launch, the brand has released four 'chapter' collections, including ultraviolet, goodnight & go, on your collar, and out of body.
