The British Beauty Council is looking for additional businesses to join its recycling scheme, following the addition of more than 2,000 conscious bins.

First launched in June this year, the British Beauty Council’s recycling scheme is designed to help consumers dispose of empties in a planet-friendly way. The scheme highlights the recycling points in Holland & Barrett, Boots, The Body Shop, Superdrug and L’Occitane stores across the UK.

The British Beauty Council has over 2000 high-street locations, but is now looking to expand its partnerships and increase the number of conscious bins available even more.

The initiative was inspired by a Courage to Change report, which identified that 56% of Britons don’t recycle bathroom waste such as shampoo, conditioner and shower gel bottles because it's often inconvenient to do so.

Millie Kendall OBE, CEO of the British Beauty Council, said: “We all know councils recycling rules differ up and down the country, so rather than over complicate things we decided to make it easier for consumers to do the right thing. We wanted to ensure that consumers found it easy to find recycling bins. What better way to do that than reach out to our nations beauty brands and retailers and ask them to join a collaborative collection of recycling points.

"The fact that we have 2000 points listed is remarkable. I am utterly overwhelmed with the support and collaborative nature of our industry.

The news coincides with COP27, which runs from 6-18 November 2022 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
