In Pictures: Aēsop taps into Canary Wharf history for new store

Luxury beauty brand Aēsop has expanded its footprint in London with a new store at Cabot Place Mall in Canary Wharf.

The new store is inspired by the site’s nineteenth and twentieth century history as "one of the busiest docks in the world", as well as its contemporary significance as a hub for London’s banking and financial services.

In the spirit of international trade, the store features items from across Europe — housed within a chestnut brown container. Aesop hopes that the "warm, enveloping ambiance" will provide respite from the supercharged retail environment.

A mid-century Italian display cabinet has been converted into a 'Fragrance Armoire' for customers to explore the brand's selection of aromas. Additionally, Edwardian ceramic basins allow the store’s trained consultants to offer advice about products best suited to individual needs.

The centre of the store is occupied by two expansive solid oak tables. Hanging from the ceiling, a vintage ‘Mille Feuille’ structure, which was designed for a Brussels bank in the 1970s, features suspended metal rectangles that resemble bank notes and cheques.

Aēsop joins a number of existing beauty brands and retailers at Cabot Place Mall, including Jo Malone London, Holland & Barrett, Kiehl's, MAC Cosmetics, L'Occitane, Space NK and Boots.

The opening follows a number of new stores for Aēsop. Last year, the brand opened at London's Regent Street and in Cambridge. As with the Canary Wharf space, these stores were also inspired by the unique history of their locations.
